Okay, so something fucky is going on. About a day or two ago, I noticed that Snipping Tool randomly opened twice while I was in the middle of installing Max Payne 3. Free ofc cause fuck Rockstar. My instincts popped off: I turned off the net, killed all active tasks, and ran a full system scan thinking my machine was pozzed now. Damn, this would be the first time since XP or Vista. Windows Security reported 1 threat (steam_api.dll) and quarantined it. It's fine, I replace them with Goldberg's anyway since it's clean and trusted. I also checked to see if any captures were taken and no. Still can't explain Snipping Tool opening up though.

I've ran several full system scans using Windows Security (both on and offline, and pre- and post-boot), Bitdefender, and Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool (portable version and offline). All were clean. However, AdwCleaner did give me two hits. First, it was firewall exceptions in the registry. Cleaned them. The other was a 'PUP.Adware.Heuristic'. I checked out the log/results thinking this was the culprit since the folder name was shady: \AppData\Local\28050. Well when I explored, I saw a folder titled 'eidos'. The results? It's just leftover data from a game that I actually bought from Steam.

I think my Windows install is just plainly fucked, and I'm not sure if it's from the Max Payne 3 repack. I had a GFX error when trying to launch it. Something about a "swap" or "boot" chain so I uninstalled it. Since then, some programs don't display their window/show on the Taskbar that they're open but Task Manager definitely shows they're running. It only works every time I restart the laptop. Any ideas? Before I go with the usual answer, has anyone used the included PC Reset option?

If that doesn't fix things, then System Restore might. If you manage to fix it, make a backup of your registry.
Also, double check Services.msc, see if anything weird was added.
